As you know, the Interpretive Center/Museum is undergoing extensive renovations and will likely remain closed until 2024. The Gift Shop is a primary source of funding for our support at Cahokia Mounds and has been impacted greatly. The Cahokia Mounds Museum Society (CMMS) needs your help! The CMMS is asking you, our generous supporters, to donate to our Renovation Fund Drive (RFD) during the month of July. With your help, last year’s RFD raised over $20,000, let’s beat last year’s numbers!
The first phase of the renovation is complete, and the Interpretive Center and Maintenance building now have new roofs. The second phase focuses on indoor mechanical work, such as HVAC, fire suppression, security, and lighting. These are necessary updates to our over 30-year-old facility. Both projects are managed by the Illinois Capital Development Board and are funded through Governor J.B. Pritzker’s bipartisan Rebuild Illinois capital plan, the first in nearly a decade. We continue to ask for your patience as we maneuver through this process.
You can make all the difference! Without you we could never support our mission in educational programs, public outreach events, land acquisition, and the promotion of Native American Arts and Culture. 100% of your donation stays at Cahokia Mounds, allowing the CMMS to produce programs like the 4 Sunrise Observances, Nature/Culture Hikes, and the Indian Market Days. As Helen Keller once wrote, “alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.”
Thank you for demonstrating your commitment to the advancement of preservation and interpretation at Cahokia Mounds. With your help the CMMS can continue making Cahokia Mounds World Heritage and State Historic Site a place in which all peoples can treasure.
