By Scott Calhoun
“Once I hit the wildflower highway, I had a hard time stopping, admits Scott Calhoun, a self-proclaimed “plant-head.” His mania for Southwester wildflowers took him from the Pacific coast of Baja California (Ajo lilies, boojum trees) to the peaks of Colorado (gentians, columbine), and from southern California (goldfields, poppies) to the heart of Texas (violet sage, rain lilies, bluebonnets). With humor, enthusiasm, honesty, and boundless curiosity, Calhoun travels to the far corners of the Southwest to “chose beauty,” always looking for “what is lovely in the wild, and what could be lovely in gardens.”
Scott Calhoun’s first book, Yard Full of Sun, won the American Horticultural Society Book Award. His writing has appeared in Sunset, Horticulture, and many other magazines. He lives with his wife and daughter in Tucson, Arizona.
