Every year we hold an Equinox/Solstice Sunrise Observance on the Sunday closest to the actual event. This year the Fall Equinox and our Sunrise Observance will take place on the same day, Sunday, September 22, 2024! Meet at the center pole of the Woodhenge reconstruction by 6:30 AM. There will be a 30-minute archaeologist-lead discussion focusing on the discovery, construction, and significance of this Pre-Columbian structure. Admission and parking are free, with no RSVP needed. Please be aware that the center pole of the Woodhenge reconstruction is on uneven/unpaved grassy terrain and may not be fully accessible to some.

* Out of respect for Native American Cultures, no ceremonies will be conducted during this event.

Join Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) Archaeology Professor, Julie Zimmermann, on SATURDAY, SEPT. 28, 2024, from 1 PM - 4 PM for our Fall - Nature/Culture Hike. This 3-hour hike introduces you to the natural environment of Cahokia Mounds and how it shaped the Mississippian culture. For your safety, we suggest you wear appropriate clothing (i.e., sturdy shoes, hat/sun visor), bring water, sunscreen, bug spray, and snacks. Please be mindful of the trails and leave them better than how you found them. Please see that any and all refuse is properly disposed of near the Interpretive Center. This event is FREE and open to the public. You DO NOT NEED TO RSVP for this even. Meet Julie Zimmermann in front of the Interpretive Center about 15 minutes before start of hike.
