Rolled Sponge Coral with “Rare” Natural Cerrillos Turquoise from New Mexico.
Because of the rareness of the precious turquoise, the value of the stone is high. The stone is hand-shaped on the Sandstone. Sandstone was used since early as 1600’s-1700’s, before the lapidary existed and before electricity in the Pueblo. Used for grinding or hand shaping beads. As an Artist from Santo Domingo Pueblo, my parents were my teachers and inspiration. Up to now, I still use the same technic on some of my pieces and I encourage my children to do the same, so the knowledge and tradition goes on forever.
