COPPER MISSISSIPPIAN SPIDER PENDANT 3.5″ REPOUSSÉ
Copper Spider design Pendant 3.5 ” (9 cm) Repoussé (hammered from the back to raise the relief) and chased spider in copper. Chasing is the opposite of repoussé, and the two are used in conjunction to create a finished piece. This is the skill PR is a master of and it was what was during the Mississippian time of the “Mound Builder” Peoples here in the mid-west and southeast. It has been done here in North America for thousands of years on our valued metal – copper. Copper is red but acts as alive with moisture – it turns green, the color of life. Copper was worked as the main metal all over Turtle Island and into South America. This spider design includes the 4 direction symbol carried on its back representing bringing fire to The People for some the Southeastern peoples.
